Johan W. M. Van Goethem, M.D., Ph.D.Senior Consultant, Department of Radiology, Sengkang General Hospital, SingaporeProfessor of Medical Imaging and Neuro-Imaging, University of Antwerp, BelgiumDr. Johan Van Goethem is a neuroradiologist and professor specializing in medical and neuro-imaging. He is currently Senior Consultant at Sengkang General Hospital in Singapore, a 1,550-bed institution within the SingHealth Group. He also holds academic and clinical appointments in Belgium as Professor at the University of Antwerp and Consultant at Antwerp University Hospital.At the University of Antwerp, Dr. Van Goethem teaches extensively in the fields of biomedical and clinical imaging, with a focus on neuro-imaging and neuroscience for students of medicine, physics, and biomedical sciences.A past president and long-serving Executive Committee member (2007–2022) of the European Society of Neuroradiology (ESNR), Dr. Van Goethem is also an active member of the American Society of Neuroradiology (ASNR) and the American Society of Spine Radiology (ASSR), which awarded him its Gold Medal in 2023. He holds visiting professorships at the University of Toronto and the University of British Columbia.Dr. Van Goethem’s research centers on neuro-imaging, particularly spinal imaging. He has an h-index of 37, with over 100 peer-reviewed publications, and is lead editor of Spinal Imaging and co-editor of The Intervertebral Disc. He has delivered more than 500 invited lectures at international conferences and academic courses.
